Our verdict

It depends on your priorities

Flat monthly fee against per-seat billing, for teams that work with clients.

TechBigs verdict, published Sep 4, 2026

Basecamp is cheaper as the team grows and more expensive as the project count does. Teamwork.com is the better fit when the work is billed by the hour, because time logging and client invoicing are in the plans rather than around them.

How the bill is calculated

Basecamp charges a flat monthly fee with project, storage and user ceilings: US$25 for 3 projects and 20 users, US$59 for 10 projects and unlimited users, US$99 for 25 projects, US$299 for unlimited projects on annual billing. Teamwork.com charges per user: free for five, US$9.99 on Basics, US$24.99 on Accelerate. Twenty people cost US$59 a month at Basecamp Studio and US$199.80 at Teamwork Basics.

Client work

Teamwork.com states time logging, building client invoices from logged time, and inviting client users into projects. Basecamp states time tracking and addresses whether clients and contractors count as users, but publishes no invoicing feature on its pricing page.

Planning depth

Teamwork.com states Gantt, table, list and board views, dependencies, custom fields, workload planning and automation allowances of 20,000 and 100,000. Basecamp publishes a deliberately short list: card tables for Kanban, time tracking, and the project and storage ceilings. It is the least configurable tool in this catalogue, on purpose.
